Star Cinema’s CINEXPO 2011

cinexpo 2011

Formulaic? Maybe. Conventional? Perhaps.

You can say whatever you want about Star Cinema but among the top mainstream studios today, they deliver the better films. And every now and then, they give us totally unexpected films that just blow us away despite the restrictions and structures of mainstream filmmaking. (Think Bagong Buwan, Bata Bata Paano Ka Ginawa, or Jologs.)

And this weekend, Star Cinema, also known as ABS-CBN Film Productions, joins forces with SM Cinema to bring us CINEXPO 2011: The Anatomy of Filmmaking, a 3-day seminar for film enthusiasts and students. This movie expo will feature discussions with some of the best mainstream filmmakers in the country including critically acclaimed director Olivia Lamasan (Sana Maulit Muli, In My Life), Production Designer Leo Abaya (Jose Rizal), and UP Film Professor Ed Lejano.

Cine Europa 2010 Schedule

13th cine europa 2010

Probably my favorite film festival in Manila that showcases foreign films, Cine Europa has been a success every year for 12 years already. And this year, as they give us their 13th lineup of films, I’m pretty sure not much will change. Lines will still be long with eager movie-goers coming back for more doses of European cinematic euphoria.

Screenings are at Cinema 2 of the Shangri-la Cineplex in Mandaluyong City!

If you’re like me, wishing to see most of the films featured at Cine Europa this year, check out the schedule below:

The past years saw two divisions: full length and shorts. This year, full length features are further divided into two — Directors Showcase and New Breed.
